Senior Director, Marketing & Communications
Position Overview
The Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) is seeking an experienced marketing and communications professional to join our team as the Senior Director of Marketing & Communications (MarComm). This position reports to the VP of Marketing & Communications and requires flexibility, agility and a deep commitment to understanding regional and organizational priorities, dynamic industry sectors and future needs of the metro.
This is a leadership position within the department, requiring active support for the people, project management and execution of initiatives. Every role within the organization is expected to own, drive and execute initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications and Marketing:
- Support the VP of Marketing & Communications, collaborating to develop and implement strategic communications and marketing plans for key initiatives.
- Project manage marketing initiatives, manage project execution and ensure alignment with the organization’s brand voice and priorities.
- Ensure consistent, clear messaging and branding across written and visual content executed by the MarComm team to maintain the reputation and visibility of the brand.
- Review and refine team content, which may include letters, press releases, social media posts, digital marketing campaigns and physical and digital branding.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with community partners and investors.
Team Leadership and Management:
- Mentor and guide team members across diverse roles to enhance their professional growth and performance, and drive clarity within a fast-paced environment.
- Ensure consistent communication flow of organizational and department priorities, shifting needs and deadlines, and milestones of execution.
- Cultivate engagement and success within the team, knowing when to drive urgency and when to reset expectations, internally and externally, for realistic deadlines and optimal results.
- Step in to assist team needs as required, ensuring seamless execution across projects.
- Eventually, lead 2-3 direct reports, fostering a collaborative and efficient team environment.
Expertise
Skillset:
- Proven experience in marketing and communications, with a strong background in brand management, strategic planning and team leadership.
- Ability to navigate and adapt to a rapidly changing market, organizational priorities and team needs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and foster collaboration among team members and stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, engaging with internal teams and external partners effectively.
Desired Qualifications:
- 7+ years of related work experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related area such as marketing, digital strategies, public relations, communications or journalism is preferred.
- Possess a player-coach mentality as someone that can manage, motivate and jump in to get the job done.
- Must have experience in the composition of concise, accurate and persuasive material.
- Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with top-tier business leaders and colleagues.
- Creative ability identifying and developing marketing strategies that appeal to targeted audiences and maximize brand visibility.
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to interface effectively with stakeholders, professionals, senior-level business executives and elected/public officials.
- Excellent creative problem-solving skills; thoughtful approach and execution.
- Goal driven, self-motivated, persistent and professional.
- Proficient in AP style, copy writing and editing.
- Strong understanding of visual design principles. Ability to recognize and drive brand consistency according to visual guidelines.
