What makes Greater Phoenix so great: Itzel Rios Soto
Published: 09/30/2022
Tell us a little about yourself:
I’m from Sonora, Mexico but have called Phoenix, Arizona my home since the age of six. I’ve recently graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.A. in Film and TV Production. I’m happy to be back home with my family and to get back into the water for all the fun summer activities like kayaking. Some of my other joys include binge-watching archeological documentaries, learning new languages and fashion.
What city or town do you live in?
Phoenix
How long have you lived in Greater Phoenix?
16 years
Where are you originally from and what brought you to Arizona?
I’m originally from Sonora, Mexico. Both of my parents came to the United States to give me access to a higher education — since I’d be the first to ever graduate, which would in return provide the opportunity at living a quality life.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Greater Phoenix on the weekends?
I’m a sucker for kayaking our beautiful Salt River.
What’s your favorite local restaurant?
The best spot for Mexican dessert or a snack is Raspados Solaris, hands down.
What’s something that has surprised you about Arizona?
The ecological diversity is always a shocker. We have it all, except for an ocean.
Please include anything else you would like to add:
Arizona is superior when it comes to sunsets, and I’ll bet on this.
