Steve Gallardo

Supervisor, District 5 of Phoenix, Maricopa County Board of Supervisors

Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Gallardo was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. As a fourth generation Arizonan, Steve has spent all of his life in the West Valley, a graduate of Trevor Browne High School. Steve Gallardo began his career in 1988 working the Maricopa County Recorder’s office assisting candidates through the election process until he 2002 when he decided to run for public office himself. Gallardo was elected to the State House of Representative in a new legislative district covering the Southwest Valley. Steve spent 10 years at the Arizona State Legislature both in the House and the Senate. During his term as State Representative, Senator Gallardo served as the House Minority Whip and in 2013 was selected to be Senate Democratic Whip.

As a lawmaker, his primary legislative issues were voters’ access and rights and raising concerns on House Bill 2305, a misguided attempt at voter suppression. Gallardo’s other legislative priorities were availability and access to affordable housing, judicial reform, and programs for youth.

Steve Gallardo was elected to the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in 2014 and re-elected to four year terms in 2016 and 2020. Gallardo’s priorities as a Maricopa County Board of Supervisors: A Livable Wage; Affordable Housing, with emphasis on the Homeless Population; Youth Leadership Development and Economic Development in the Western portion of the County.

Since 2018 Steve has served on the Phoenix Union High School District Governing Board, he also was a member of the Cartwright Elementary School District Board.
